Mastermind
Crack the secret color code before your rival does.
What you are trying to do
Deduce the shared hidden four-color code before the rest of the table.
Submit a code
Choose four colors; repeats are possible, and every player races against the same secret.
Read the pegs
Black means correct color and position. White means correct color in a different position.
Narrow the candidates
Use each clue to eliminate impossible codes. Exact solution wins; otherwise the closest result after ten guesses does.
Complete rules for Mastermind
These are the disclosed rules used by the room—not a simplified summary that changes once the match begins.
- 01
Everyone races to crack the same hidden 4-color code.
- 02
After each guess you get clues: black pegs for right color and place, white for right color wrong place.
- 03
Use the clues to narrow it down. You get 10 guesses.
- 04
First to guess the exact code wins. If nobody cracks it, the closest guess wins.

Uses 8 (hard) for the shared challenge.
Three useful habits
Use a structured opening guess so its clue teaches you about several colors at once.
Account for black pegs before assigning white pegs, especially when colors repeat.
Do not submit a guess that contradicts an earlier clue.
